If you're a dog owner, you know that accidents happen, and sometimes your furry friend may have an accident on your carpet. While it's important to clean up the mess as soon as possible, even a small amount of urine can leave a lasting odor. If you're struggling to get rid of the dog urine smell in your carpet, don't worry – we've got you covered with these helpful tips. Note these are some general tips from our own research on common floor carpet types.
As soon as you notice the accident, use paper towels or a clean cloth to blot up as much urine as possible. Avoid rubbing or scrubbing the area, as this can push the urine deeper into the carpet fibers.
Enzymatic cleaners are designed to break down the proteins in urine, which is what causes the odor. Look for a cleaner specifically designed for pet urine, and follow the instructions carefully. Apply the cleaner to the affected area and let it sit for at least 10-15 minutes before blotting it up with a clean cloth.
If you prefer a natural solution, you can try mixing equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Spray the solution on the affected area and let it sit for 10-15 minutes before blotting it up with a clean cloth.
Baking soda is great for absorbing odors. Sprinkle baking soda over the affected area and let it sit for a few hours or overnight before vacuuming it up. You can also mix baking soda with water to make a paste and apply it directly to the affected area.
If the smell persists after trying the above methods, it may be time to call in the professionals. A professional carpet cleaning company can use specialized equipment and cleaning solutions to effectively remove the odor and restore your carpet to its original condition.
Important Tip!
We also highly suggest calling the professionals if you got a rug or a highly valuable carpet, to ensure you are following their strict advice, as these options might not be suitable for those. Always ensure to read the labels for care instructions.
In conclusion, getting dog urine smell out of your carpet can be a challenge, but with the right tools and techniques, it's possible to eliminate the odor and keep your home smelling fresh and clean. Remember to act quickly, use the right products, and consider professional help if necessary.

In this article, we will cover the importance of dog teeth cleaning and why you need to brush your dog’s teeth. We also have 3 top tips to clean your dog’s teeth.
Based on our research and speaking to various vets, it is highly advisable that you clean your dog’s teeth regularly as it helps reducing chances of developing gum diseases. The good news is that dogs, unlike human beings are not as prone to cavities. But even so, in order to maintain a healthy welfare for your dog, it is essential to clean your canine’s teeth regularly as possible as it can have loads of benefits including:
Where and how can I get my dog’s teeth cleaned? And is it expensive?
Well the good news is that there are a couple of options available to you. You can either do it at home, or at your vets or at some specialist pet stores. But we noticed is that doing it at home is far less costly option, as some canine cleaning services can charge anything up to £100-£500, depending on your dog breed, location, age and if they require anaesthesia, etc.
In order to clean your dog’s teeth, we recommend to follow these 3 top tips:
How to Brush my dog’s teeth?
Get a good quality dog toothbrush, there are loads in the market but we found the double headed one’s works wonderfully well for most breeds. You can also use some child’s toothbrush or a pet friendly finger toothbrush.
Put a tiny piece of dog’s toothpaste on a water-moistened brush, and start brushing at a 45-degree angel and work your way from back teeth to the front. And make sure you brush gently and be patient. You may find that some dog’s would not let you to clean inside surface of their teeth, so you may find easier to start with outside (cheek-facing surface). We recommend to also reach to the back upper molars too, as they tend to get tartar more often.
Your dog might not let you brush their teeth at first, but try to relax and do it at a time after their exercise so there is a good chance for them to sit still for the brushing. Remember not over doing it in the first few times, and let them get used to it slowly and stop if you noticed they are getting agitated. You can always continue the next day till they get used to it slowly.
One of the best ways to keep them motivated is to reward your dog after, don’t forget your clickers and then give them a treat. Our best advise for puppy owners is to start early with their dental care, so that they get more comfortable with teeth cleaning and brushing at a young age.
Which Toothpaste to use for your puppy or dog teeth?
Please always remember to only use dogtooth paste. Never try to use human toothpaste, or baking soda or salt for your dog as they can be poisonous or harmful for them due to their ingredients. Dogtooth pastes are often flavoured with poultry, malt or other dog friendly varieties. You can find dogtooth paste online, or at your vets or specialist pet stores.
Why dry food is better than Wet food for dogs teeth?
If you noticed cleaning your dog’s teeth is like running a marathon every day and ends up in tears and blood, one of the other useful tips is to use dry food as an alternative to wet foods. As Wet or Soft food can stick to teeth and cause decays.
Do chew bones and chew toys help cleaning my dog’s teeth?
Subject to your dog’s breed and size, you can either give them chew bones or synthetic bones and or chew toys that are specially designed to help with their gum and oral health. We highly advise to only use safe toys or options for your dog to chew on, as hard objects can damage or break their teeth.
How often do I need to clean my dog’s teeth?
We recommend cleaning your dog’s teeth daily or as often as possible. And at least have it checked or cleaned at vets every 6 months or once a year. As during these routine cleanings and checks vets can assess the overall dog’s dental heath and oral hygiene in order to avoid getting life threatening conditions if left untreated.
We recommend to also looking inside your dog’s mouth every week or so, to see if you spot any of dental health problems signs (some listed below) and then take your dog to vet if they are showing these symptoms:

In this article, we’ve collected the most common pet owners success stories from our interviews to show you how to how to train your Dog, particularly how to train your French Bulldog by using positive reinforcement.
We all know Frenchies are known to be just a little bit more stubborn than other dogs, but like any other canine, they also learn really well by promoting their positive behaviour using positive associations.
For example, meet Alan one of our Frenchie Pet owners in London. He always wanted his Dog Loui to stop jumping when he wants attention and started to use positive association as a way to train his dog to change his behaviour, like giving Loui his favourite treat or toy when he sits. Some of his learning’s’ were:
There is no one size fits all answer here. Every Frenchie is different and we know some of these adorable little creatures have huge personalities. But the trick is to learn what motivates your Frenchies. As rewards come in all size and shapes. For example if you are struggling to take them out for walkies, for instance if they freeze and don’t want to walk, try to motivate them by giving them their favourite treats during walkies or carry their favourite toys with to play.
Another thing we learnt is to perhaps feed them after they completed their walks, so they associate feeding as a reward after walking. Same goes if you want to potty train them. Do reward them after they pee or poop in correct place. But remember they have very short memory, so you got to keep rewarding them till it becomes behaviour.
And as for some of us hopelessly in love with these little ones, we all know we can’t resist by wiggling our buddies for them too, especially when we see a magical poop on a training pad, so do the things that you think could work. Whether if its your wiggles or giving them their favourite food/ toy. And in everything you do, try to be relaxed and happy as they really feed off from your energy. They just want love.
Timing is key for reinforcing positive behaviour. For instance if they delivered a desired behaviour, like a sit command, give them treats straight away. But also know don’t use treats/ or positive reinforcement after they just done an unwanted behaviour. For example if they keep biting you when playing or barking at the door when someone passes, don’t give them treats right after to distract them, as this could result in learning the bad behaviour instead.
Remember it doesn’t always have to be treats either, you can use certain phrases such as “Yes” or use clicker devices, as the sound could also be used a sign for positive reinforcement.
There are loads of things we all know these little guys are capable of that we can’t simply ignore. Whether it is them tasting their poop a little here now and then or jumping or biting you or the kids. In these situations the best solution is to try and distract them with a different or opposite command, like ask them to sit if they’re jumping. And do try to pre-empt their unwanted behaviour and ask them to do an incompatible command to distract them, so you can focus on positives.
Based on various dog behaviouralist experts, clickers are one of the best ways to promote reward-based training for your Frenchies.
These devices come in different shapes and usually are in a form of a small box that makes a distinctive and consistent sound to provide your dog with clear response. Once your dog knows that clickers mark a correct behaviour, you can use them to train them on a number of different things.
See our range of some of best clicker buys in the market.
Key ingredients:
Before we start with anything, we need to show our frenchies that clickers’ sounds are associated with a reward. You can easily do this by clicking and instantly giving a treat without asking them to perform anything. Make sure you always offer treat after clicks so they learn to associate it with a positive reinforcement.
Next step is to use the clicker to teach tricks or commands to improve their behaviour. For example if you want to teach them to sit:
Get them to a position that you like
As soon as they have done it make a click sound followed by a treat
Repeat this step until your Frenchie is able to do this behaviour simply by hand signal
You can also help this by adding a word to the action like Sit, Stand, Shake Hand, etc.
