Measure around the widest part of the chest and compare with the chart on the selected listing. Once fitted, check that the front panel stays clear of the throat, the straps do not rub behind the front legs and the shoulders move freely.

These are the recommended measurements of your dog, not the larger ranges printed on the harness label. Measure the widest part of the chest and check the neck too. If the chest measurement approaches the top of a range, the retailer suggests choosing the next size up; check that the neck range also fits.
