Understanding IVDD costs in the United States
There is no reliable single nationwide price for IVDD treatment. Costs vary significantly by state, hospital, emergency status, imaging, neurological severity, surgery, length of stay and rehabilitation. This page helps you understand the bill rather than presenting a misleading national average.
The main cost layers
Emergency examination
ER consultation, triage, pain control, stabilisation, laboratory tests and transfer where required.
Neurology referral
Specialist consultation and neurological examination, with review of previous imaging and records.
Advanced imaging
MRI or CT plus anaesthesia or sedation when indicated. Cornell and UC Davis both describe MRI/CT as part of specialist neurological diagnostic capability.
Surgery & hospitalisation
Operating room, surgeon, anaesthesia, decompression procedure, medications, intensive nursing and length of stay.
Recovery
Rechecks, prescriptions, rehabilitation, mobility support and home-care supplies.
Complications
Additional imaging, longer hospitalisation, urinary care or other complications can materially change the total.
Ask the hospital for two numbers
Where possible, ask for the expected estimate and the upper range they want authorisation for. Also ask what event would cause the estimate to change and when they will call you before additional charges are incurred.
