How specialist referral works

Referral routes differ between countries and hospitals. A quick call to your usual vet or the specialist centre can prevent delays and unnecessary travel.

🇬🇧 United Kingdom

Most veterinary neurology and spinal referral hospitals will usually see your dog following referral from your primary-care vet. Your vet can assess urgency, send the clinical history and discuss which referral centre is appropriate for your dog.

🇺🇸 United States

Referral policies vary by hospital. Start with your primary veterinarian where possible so records and imaging can be transferred, but some specialist centres accept direct appointments. Check the individual hospital before travelling.

Before you travel

Clinic services, specialist rosters and emergency availability can change. Always contact the hospital directly before travelling. Inclusion is not an endorsement or guarantee of treatment.
