Walkin’ Wheels Small Dog Wheelchair

Support for their back legs. More freedom to explore.

After trying cheaper wheelchairs, Walkin’ Wheels is the one we kept for Loui. Its adjustable frame helped us refine his fit and made it our choice for his supported outings.

It supports the hindquarters while your dog’s front legs do the walking. Choose the size from your dog’s measurements, and ask their veterinary team whether rear support suits their needs.

WHY WE CHOSE THIS ONE

The chair we kept when fit mattered most.

A wheelchair earns its place when it works for the dog and the person helping them. With Loui, being able to adjust the frame and refine the chest fit mattered more than buying the cheapest chair. His front legs do the stepping while the rear support carries his hindquarters, within the activity his veterinary team allows.

With Loui, we went through four different setups. Some felt too flexible or unstable; others were difficult to adjust or did not support his hindquarters in the way we wanted.

Walkin’ Wheels cost more, but it was the first chair that gave us the stability, adjustability and fit we were looking for.

That is why we recommend it: not because expensive automatically means better, but because this was the one we stopped replacing and started using.

WHAT MATTERS IN A WHEELCHAIR

Four things we would look for first

↔
01

Adjustable around the dog

Height, width and length can be tuned around the individual dog, not a vague one-size-fits-all shape.

◒
02

Lightweight aluminum frame

In our hands, it felt lightweight without feeling flimsy, and more reassuring than the cheaper chairs we tried.

03

Complete rear-support setup

Frame, wheels, front harness, rear leg rings, belly support and paw stirrups are included in the rear-wheel setup.

04

Can adapt later

A compatible front-wheel kit is available if mobility needs change.

FIT COMES FIRST

Measure your dog, not the breed label

The frame only helps if it is balanced around the individual dog.

  • Measure the dog. Weight, rear-leg height and armpit-to-rump length guide the setup.
  • Check the front harness too. Broad-chested dogs can need a different front fit.
  • Ask for fitting help if unsure. Small adjustments can change how the chair sits around the dog.

A REAL FITTING LESSON

The wheelchair was right. We found a better front fit for Loui.

The wheelchair came with a standard front harness, but Loui’s broad Frenchie chest needed a different fit. We switched to the Small Front Vest, a compatible add-on for the chair, and it fitted him much better.

It was a useful reminder that the right frame size does not necessarily mean every harness style will suit every dog’s shape.

AUBENORD VERDICT

Our first choice for Loui’s rear support, with the right measurements and fitting advice.

We tried several cheaper wheelchair setups before this one. Walkin’ Wheels was recommended by Loui’s referral veterinary team and became the chair we were comfortable using with him every day.

It isn’t the cheapest. For us, it was the better value because we stopped replacing wheelchairs.
