Wheelchairs and mobility aids can help selected dogs with persistent weakness or paralysis move more independently, but the right support depends on which limbs need help, front-limb strength, body measurements, skin tolerance and the rehabilitation plan. A rear-support cart, four-wheel setup, sling or support harness solves different problems, so start with the function your dog needs rather than the product name.

For IVDD, mobility equipment should sit inside the veterinary or rehabilitation plan — not replace assessment, prescribed restriction or recovery work. Measure using the manufacturer’s method, introduce equipment gradually, watch for rubbing or fatigue, and keep routes flat, grippy and controlled. New or worsening weakness, dragging, knuckling or loss of walking ability still needs veterinary assessment before it is treated as an equipment problem.
