Why we chose it after cheaper wheelchairs failed
We tried cheaper wheelchairs first. They looked similar online, but on Loui the fit and support never felt right.
Walkin’ Wheels felt more solid, adjusted more easily around his body and became the setup we actually trusted for everyday outings.
Adjustable around the dog
Height, width and length can be tuned around the individual dog — not a vague one-size-fits-all shape.
Lightweight aluminium
The manufacturer uses a lightweight aluminium frame. In our hands it felt far more reassuring than the cheaper chairs we tried.
Complete rear-support setup
Frame, wheels, front harness, rear leg rings, stirrups and belly belt are included in the UK kit.
Can adapt later
A compatible front-wheel attachment can convert the rear chair to four-wheel support if mobility needs change.
Small dogs needing rear support
For small pets with hind-leg weakness, paralysis or reduced rear mobility where a rear-support wheelchair is appropriate.
Not just French Bulldogs
The manufacturer lists Dachshunds, Pugs, French Bulldogs, Shih Tzus, Boston Terriers, Cavaliers and other small breeds.
Around 11–25 lb
The Small frame is intended for pets around 11–25 lb. Dogs outside that range may need another frame size.
Measure — don’t guess
Breed gives context, not the answer. The right setup depends on your dog’s measurements and body shape.
Measure your dog, not the breed label
Weight helps identify the correct frame range. Walkin’ Pets then uses rear-leg height and body length/armpit-to-rump (ATR) to size and adjust the chair.
For broad-chested dogs, front-harness fit deserves the same attention as the rear frame.
Frame + rear wheels
The adjustable frame and two rear wheels create the core mobility platform.
Harness + leg rings + belly belt
The front harness, rear leg rings and belly belt secure and support the dog within the frame.
Rear paw stirrups
Useful when rear paws need to be held clear of the ground to reduce dragging or scuffing.
Loui needed a different front harness
Loui’s broad Frenchie chest meant the standard front harness was not our favourite long-term fit. The Small Front Vest worked better for him.
That does not make the wheelchair Frenchie-only. It shows why body shape matters even when the frame size is right.
Practical checks before you order
Before you order
- Check with your vet or rehabilitation professional that wheelchair use is appropriate for your dog.
- Choose the frame by measurements, not breed name alone.
- Check front-harness fit, frame balance, skin contact points and paw position.
- Build wheelchair time gradually, especially after a period of reduced mobility.
- Stop and reassess if you notice pain, rubbing, front-leg fatigue or neurological changes.
Useful additions
- Small Front Vest: this fitted Loui’s broad chest better than the standard front harness.
- Protective boots: worth considering if rear paws scuff or drag.
- Front-wheel attachment: a future option if a dog later needs support at the front as well as the rear.

The wheelchair we trusted with Loui
If you are looking only for the cheapest wheelchair, this probably is not it. But after cheaper chairs failed us, Walkin’ Wheels gave us the adjustability and support we wanted for Loui.
For us, paying more for the setup we actually felt comfortable using was worth it.
